Story 10: When the Stained Glass was Unveiled in the Sacred Space
Honouring Daniel Bissessar
As we approach the New Year, we reflect on the 2015 unveiling of the stained-glass tribute dedicated in memory of Daniel Bissessar, who passed away suddenly on January 1, 2012, at the age of four and a half. In the video above, former QCH Chaplain Barbara Zerter shares the story behind the stained-glass window in our sacred space.
Following Daniel’s passing, his father, David, commissioned the stained glass as both a memorial to his son and a heartfelt expression of thanks for the care his family received. The stained-glass window created in Daniel’s memory continues to shine as a reminder that compassion and care endure, even through loss.

Meaning Behind the Glass
David worked with Barbara to ensure the piece remained true to not only David’s vision of how he wanted to honour Daniel, but also inclusive to anyone who entered the space. “Sacred space is about combining elements of nature where people find a spiritual connection,” noted Barbara. “The elements of light, air, fire, and water are illuminated in this art piece and it’s a beautiful testament to life and the caring journey everyone at QCH plays a part in. We are blessed that the care we provide is truly felt by families in need.”
