  • assessment and support with child protection concerns and violence at home,

  • and more!

Quick Facts:

  • QCH has 35 social workers on staff.

  • Social workers can be found on both inpatient and outpatient units.

  • QCH requires all social workers to hold a Master of Social Work graduate degree and be registered with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers.

The Social Work team is a wealth of knowledge. The dedication and continuous support they provide for patients and their families is irreplaceable.
— Jen Munro, Nurse Educator
They help patients and their families during the most stressful times in their lives. They are an integral support as they assist to navigate the impacts that illness has had on patients’ and families’ lives. We are so grateful to have such an amazing team of social workers!
— Sylvia Pearce, Clinical Director
The complexity of their work is underscored by many of the broader social challenges we are facing, such as the housing crisis and increasing cost of living. Social workers are vital to the flow of the hospital by ensuring that patients are able to safely transition back to the community with the resources they need.
— Julissa Edgar, Nurse Practitioner
Assisting with discharge planning for older adults, helping patients suffering from substance use, and providing support to families after losing a loved one are just a few examples of your dedication to patient care. Social workers rule!!
— Dr. Adam Nicholson, Chief and Medical Director, Emergency Services
Without social workers, the Emergency Department would be lost. They help families of the dying, kids with sick parents, homeless patients find shelter, just to name a few. Essentially, they add hope where there would be hopelessness, comfort and caring in an environment that can seem careless. An indispensable part of our team.
