Pharmacy Department Receives the Golden Q Award

The QCH Pharmacy Department has been nominated for the prestigious Golden Q Award by the Finance Team.

The Pharmacy Department plays a pivotal role in the hospital's operations supporting exceptional patient care and safety. Their wide range of activities fall into two main categories: direct patient care as part of a collaborative healthcare practitioner team and medication dispensing which includes the procuring, storing and sending of medications to the patient care units. Under these two broad activities, QCH Pharmacy stocks and prepares over 1,700 medications and dispense over 2,000,000-unit doses per year; that is 5,670 doses per day on average. The Pharmacy Team also completes approximately 12,000 Best Possible Medication Histories per year for newly admitted patients and conducts medication reviews / recommendations on the over 14,000 admitted inpatients per year. You might not be aware but, Pharmacy also has a dedicated resource as part of the Outpatient Heart Function Clinic and leads the Antibiotic Stewardship Program helping to ensure patients receive optimal care.

Through careful oversight and work on the Medication Safety project, they have implemented robust protocols to prevent medication errors and ensure the continuity of care.
