An RT in blue

Meet Natwarlal (Nat) Naik, a QCH volunteer. Originally from South Africa, Nat moved to Canada in 1969 and has a storied history in the field of respiratory therapy.

With 23+ years of experience in respiratory therapy, Nat progressed in his career as the manager of cardio-respiratory services in Toronto, Ontario. He played a crucial role in transforming the department into a 24/7 service, and initiated projects like a 250-bed community hospital and a COPD rehab clinic.

Nat expanded his clinical skills with certifications in neonatal resuscitation, AED instruction, medical first response, and first aid. He authored articles like "History of Bronchoscopy" in the Respiratory Technology Magazine, and "Jet Ventilation of One Lung for Laser Research of Bronchial Tumor."

Upon retirement, Nat explored different volunteer areas but ultimately found fulfillment in continuing with hospitals.

Outside of the hospital, he’s made lasting memories as a loving husband, devoted father, and cherished grandfather.

At 81 years old, he is still making a difference in the lives of others every day!

I appreciate the friendly atmosphere and helpful volunteer department at QCH — my time here has been rewarding.
