Indigenous Nurses Day

On the first day of Nursing Week, we’re celebrating Indigenous Nurses Day!

Marcie, an Indigenous RN at QCH, shared this message with us:

“I view this day as a day to celebrate the unique ability Indigenous health care professionals have to incorporate traditional teachings into Western medicine.

The black-and-white picture is a picture of my grandmother’s aunt, who was one of our first health nurses from our community, Couchiching First Nations, Fort Frances.

The other picture is of a small part of my family from this past summer, but most importantly, my Nana, a residential school survivor and our hero, is in the middle. I am honoured to carry on the tradition of healing in our family, following in my mom’s footsteps, who is also a nurse.”
