Then There Were Three: A Birth Story at QCH
Meet Paige and the newest addition to her family, Ella, born at QCH.
When Paige arrived at Queensway Carleton Hospital at 34 weeks pregnant, she went in hoping for an unmedicated birth. Thanks to the expertise and compassion of Dr. Thorne and the childbirth team, she achieved her goal safely, with both her and her baby’s health carefully supported every step of the way.
“The team was absolutely outstanding—balancing our care with calm guidance and compassion,” Paige shared. “They educated me throughout the process, kept me grounded, and helped me achieve my birth goal safely.”
After delivery, Paige received exceptional postpartum care from the nursing staff, who supported both her physical recovery and emotional well-being. She gave special thanks to Nurse Tracy for her genuine kindness and attentive care.
Paige’s daughter spent six days in QCH’s Special Care Nursery (SCN) for treatment of elevated bilirubin levels. “Words cannot fully capture how extraordinary every single staff member in the SCN was,” she said, offering heartfelt gratitude to Nurse Martha for her compassion and creativity. “Even while working a 16-hour shift, she made our stay comforting—turning our baby’s care into something truly unforgettable.”
Paige says her heart “will never be the same” after this experience. She and her family are endlessly grateful to Dr. Thorne and the remarkable staff who supported them with warmth, professionalism, and humanity.
Thank you, Paige, for sharing your story with us. Congratulations to your family of three!
