Improving Ambulance Handover: EMS Check-In at QCH
Queensway Carleton Hospital’s Emergency Department (ED) is making big strides in improving patient flow and reducing wait times with the ED Xcellence Project. One of the first improvements introduced is a streamlined EMS Check-In process.
When an ambulance arrives, every second counts. The new system allows paramedics to quickly present at the EMS offload desk and directly call the triage nurse by phone. This faster, more efficient connection ensures timely and accurate patient handovers, helping paramedics return to the community sooner.
This small but impactful change has made a real difference in the way we receive and care for patients arriving by ambulance. It’s one of several steps we’re taking to create a safer, more efficient emergency experience for everyone.
